Kolokouris may be big winner, too

September 7, 2006

lensPensacola City Council District 2 candidate Steve Kolokouris could be a big beneficiary of the Park and Grover Robinson wins. People want a change.

His opponents are Sam Hall and Paul Young.

Sam was a vocal member of Stop Our City ( Sam Hall delivers Elebash message) and wants to abolish the Community Redevelopment Agency that will paying off the $42 million bond issue for the park.

Paul is a former city councilman, Bell South exec and now with Baptist Hospital. He is seen as old school and raised tons of money from his buddies.
Steve is young and will garner support from the young professionals.

  1. Rick,
I would just like to clarify that the Pensacola Young Professionals will not be supporting any candidates for election. There may be some young professionals that support Mr. Kolokouris, but our organization will not be supporting any individual candidate or political party. I don’t think that is what you were implying, but I just want to clear that up for everyone else. I wish Steve and the other candidates the best of luck in their upcoming election.

  2. Rick Outzen Says:

    Thanks, Jason.

I don’t speak for the PYP and “young professionals” are more than PYP. My observation is that Steve plays better to the under 40 crowd than Hall or Young.

Time will tell if I’m right. My record isn’t too bad.

  3. NAP Says:

Come on guys and rebel gals. Isn’t it “Rick and the PYP’s.” Pensacola’s new “in band.” Are you young rebels already bolting from the “authoritarian rule” of the parent. After all, Rick made you! Your employers patted you on your little buts and sent you out to battle and they and the Escambia County Greater Northwest Florida Pensacola Bay Area Chamber of Commerce gave you sustenance. Be grateful. Be quite, except when spoke to, and do as you’re told. Young rebels unite! You’ve been lead to believe you can take over government – do it.

  4. Rick Outzen Says:

    And the attacks begin.

You totally misunderstand this age group. They may be our most saavy generation yet and the least likely to conform to their parents, bosses or others’ wishes. Many care for this community far more than you give them credit.

They fought and earned a voice at the table. I know its hard for you, NAP, to share the reins, but you have no choice in the matter.

People all over this country decry the lack of participation by the younger voters. Pensacola Young Professionals reversed that trend. Criticize, Mock and Attack all you like – they kicked butt on Tuesday.

  5. Concerned young professional Says:

When I clicked on the link to learn more about Steve the website was not available. When I did some research on the internet this is what I found. Does anyone else care about his aggressive background?

    From Court TV.com
“GEORGIA v. KOLOKOURIS – Hero or Villian?
Off Ðduty jailer, Stephen Kolokouris is charged with aggravated assault and reckless conduct after shooting two black teenagers he alleged were robbing a store. Kolokouris claims the BB guns the teens held resembled .45 caliber semiautomatic revolvers. The store owner claims the teenagers asked for a drink of water and left, and that they were clearly not trying to rob the store. (2/99)”

From Escambia County Clerk of Court:

He is currently on probation for battery and criminal mischief (case number 2006 MM 023970 A)

Is this who Rick is supporting?

  9. Rick Outzen Says:

It wouldn’t be Pensacola City Council race without somebody digging up dirt on a candidate.

Neither I or the Independent News has endorsed anybody yet for the Pensacola City Council races. We’ve got plenty of time to delve into the candidates.

  10. Rick Ansbro Says:

    Young, a proven leader? Right.
I know Kolokouris and things aren’t always as they seem on paper. He caught his girl with another guy in his house and did what any man would have done.

  11. Rick Ansbro Says:

BTW Steve was cleared of that in the line of duty shooting of two gang members, one of whom had a coviction for the gang rape of a nine year old boy.

  12. J Says:

    These are our choices?
Sam Hall – Possible Member of C.A.V.E. (Citizens Against Virtually Everything)
Steve Kolokouris – Something of a violent past. If my girl is with some other guy, she’s not worth fighting over, that’s for damn sure.
Paul Young – Old-er guy, connections and plenty of $$, obviously serious about the election based on the 1 yard sign I’ve seen.

    Damn.

  13. Rick Outzen Says:

    Guys,

Stay on the facts. Unless you have proof – let’s not assert someone is in the KKK or any hate group.

Posting the case numbers on Steve K is fine, but don’t read more into it than you can verify.

  14. Kay M. Johnson Says:

My oh my, I have come across a very interesting web site! Be sure to check out case # 92003717MMMA regarding Kolokouris and his ‘harrassing phone calls’ problem. Here is the website since Rick said that it is ok to post the case numbers. Thx Rick, you rock!

    http://oncoreweb.srccol.com/srccol/allnamec.asp

you may also go to this main page and do a search under Kolokouris’ name and it will pull up the before mentioned page. God help us Pensacolians if this is what we have to look forward to! I may have to move up north if he wins!

  16. Courtney Says:

    Kay,

I’ve spoken with Stephen Kolokouris about these postings that you’ve done over the last several days and I’ve come to the conclusion that you either are 1)in support of Sam Hall or Paul Young and are probably just digging for anything you can find on google and don’t really care to know the whole story and don’t want anyone else to either or 2)you truly are sincere in your concerns and have neglected to do the most logical thing and look up Stephen’s phone number in the phone book and ask him about these things.

I’m going to go with option #1 because I can see that you are smart enough and computer savvy enough to use a computer to do research and therefore should have no problem finding out where he lives or what his phone number is. That said, you have obviously not spoken to him about any of these things to find out if this really is him (hint: there is more than one Stephen Kolokouris in this area)and what the circumstances were. (I’m just trying to prevent you from embarrassing yourself anymore than you already have.)

If I may, I’m going to presume that you run with Sam Hall since you like to mislead without telling the whole story much like Sam did with the Maritime Park.

    Prove me wrong.

  17. Jason Says:

    Ohhh snap!
