Great editorial. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

  2. Jim McClellan Says:

Back in the good ol’ days, when I was at FSU, we were fortunate to have the Florida Flambeau in print on campus. The Flambeau could be counted on for several things:

A socialist-bent editorial, usually suggesting that then President Ronald Reagan be impeached, tarred and feathered.

Up-to-date information about drink specials at the local bars and the latest intramural sports standings.

And, the occasional well-researched story about some injustice on campus or in town.

It was loved, hated, cursed, praised, threatened, encouraged, but always read. It was even appreciated, though often in retrospect.

I guess FSU needed a semi-pro paper to cover their semi-pro football program. (TIC – so all you Noles, chill out). To be fair, I have seen columns in the Democrat decrying the acquisition and especially the loss of what the Flambeau once was.

Still, in a free market, there is nothing stopping the start up of a truly independent student paper (except money, distribution, talent and more money).
