Private schools are not that great

August 2, 2006

lensPrivate school education isn’t necessarily better than public edcuation.

The Department of Education recently released a study that indicates that children in public schools generally performed as well or better in reading and mathematics than comparable children in private schools. Conservative Christian schools scored significantly lower in mathematics. Catholic and Lutheran schools were on par with the public schools.
Over 6900 public schools and over 530 private schools participated in the 4th grade assessments. Over 5500 public schools and over 550 private schools were included in the 8th grade assessments.

Having been through public and private schools, in my case, there are some differences. However, the results depend truly upon how motivated a student is and a how enthused a teacher is about the subject being taught.
Yet, in attending Private schools, they do seem to push harder. They gave more homework and more responsibilities, and group projects. When I attended public high school after private schooling, the public school work was a piece of cake.
