WHAT Large Group Habitat Two Release

WHEN Monday, July 31, 8:30 a.m.

WHERE Chimp Haven Sanctuary in Keithville, Louisiana

Chimp Haven will open the doors to the second 4.5-acre habitat to the largest group of captive adult chimpanzees in the country. This new “Super Group” of 19 chimpanzees includes eight males and 11 female chimpanzees, many of whom are wild born. Among those in this group are Betsy and Tulip, mother and daughter who were reunited at Chimp Haven after years apart in separate research facilities. Witness as they explore the pine forest for the first time with the other chimpanzees. You will also witness “chimpanzee politics” as the males attempt to establish dominance within the group and the social hierarchy is established.

This will be the first time the media will have access to a large group release and given the opportunity to witness the group dynamics after being released into their new forest home. After the release, Dr. Linda Brent, Chimp Haven President, Dr. Elysse Orchard, staff veterinarian and Associate Director, and Amy Fultz, staff behaviorist, will be available for interviews and to discuss the group introductions and the preparations for this momentous day. This will be a great photo and video opportunity.

Media interested in attending will be required to arrive NLT 8 a.m. the day of the release. For more information or directions, contact Rick DelaHaya, Chimp Haven Public Relations Manager, at 318-925-5795 or e-mail rdelahaya@chimphaven.org.

Pensacola should do something like this.

It looks like the Dinosaur Adventure Land property over in Car City may be available at tax auction soon. Maybe the county could buy it and relocate the SOC crowd so they won’t be disturbed by all the activity at the new Maritime Park.

Think of the fun we can all have continuing to watch “chimpanzee politics” play out in an environment designed to accomidate the tossing of excrement as political expression.

Todd Leonard, man what a piece of work. To judge his character simply go to his website and pull down his bio. He was thrown out of West Point, flunked out, failed. In his bio he says he successfully studied advanced track engineering at West Point for two years then decided to pursue his education at UWF. What a laugh! Nothing against the Argos but to claim someone left West Point in order to study engineering at UWF is a load of crap! They did not even have an engineering program at the time.

Bryce, not sure where you got your information from, but I just returned from reading Todd’s Bio and found no mention his pursuing engineering at UWF. In fact Todd clearly states,

“After spending two years at West Point enduring a rigorous and demanding engineering curriculum, Todd returned home to Pensacola and graduated Cum Laude from the University of West Florida in 1991 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science and a minor in History.”
