Springdale, Ark. approves $33M baseball park

July 18, 2006

riders Springdale. Arkansas (population 63,000) voters narrowly passed a one-cent sales-tax extension to build a $33 million minor league baseball stadium, with 2,410 in favor and 2,393 opposed on July 12, 2006.

Yes, Marty, it’s a $33 million stadium, 6000 seats…all paid for by the public.

The next step is to get a team there – that’s right they didn’t even have a team. Negotiations are ongoing with the Wichita Wrangler, who play in the same AA Texas League.

Springdale is the home of Tyson Foods and is near Fayetteville – home of the University of Arkansas.
