Date 07-02-06

“You have to think big,” explained Mona Charen when listing herself as a “pundit” on her very first tax return at age 22. Thinking big is what she has done ever since. Ms. Charen is now a syndicated columnist and political analyst, and is a frequent guest on television and radio public affairs programs.

After working as an editorial assistant at National Review, in 1984, Charen joined the White House staff as a speechwriter for Nancy Reagan and later became Associate Director of the Office Of Public Liaison where she lectured widely on the administration’s Central American policy and helped craft President Reagan’s overall communications strategy. In 1986 she was a speechwriter for Jack Kemp’s presidential campaign. Since she launched her column in 1987, it has become one of the fastest growing columns in the industry. It is featured in more than 300 newspapers across the country, including the Boston Globe, the Baltimore Sun, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and the Washington Times. She spent six years as a regular commentator on CNN’s “Capital Gang” and “Capital Gang Sunday,” and has served as a judge of the Pulitzer Prizes. She is the author of two best sellers: Useful Idiots: How Liberals Got it Wrong in the Cold War and Still Blame America First (2003), and Do-Gooders: How Liberals Harm Those They Claim to Help — and the Rest of Us (2005), and is a frequent guest on television and radio public affairs programs. An honor graduate of Barnard College, Columbia University, Ms. Charen also holds a degree in law from George Washington University, and is married with three children.
