The Executive Committee of the Santa Rosa County Republican party has voted to oppose the penny local sales tax for roads. This decision puts the GOP in direct opposition to the Santa Rosa County Board of Commissioners that is filled with Republicans.

The commissioners have identified $326 million in road improvements need for Santa Rosa County over the next 10 years. The local option sales tax will fund a little more than half of the projects. Other revenues will come from franchise fees and impact fees. The Santa Rosa County voters will vote on the penny sales tax this fall.

That motion for the Republican party to oppose the sales tax was made by Jerry Cooey who ran against Don Salter last election. There was a lot of discussion on the issue. The vote passed 15 yea, 7 nay and 1 abstention.

Meanwhile people are dying on Santa Rosa County road nearly every week.

  1. Heather Says:

These people are so stupid I don’t know where to begin. What do they propose we do with all the traffic that is here now and more is coming? I’ve learned to truely hate republicans who vote NO on any tax to improve our community. Believe it or not some taxes are necessary and I can almost guarantee that I pay more in taxes now than any of these people who voted no. Hopefully our commissioners will not listen to these lunitics and neither will the public as whole when it comes time to vote.
